Did you know that Instagram has more monthly active users than Twitter?  16 million more to be exact. (Source for Instagram & Twitter).  This should really show you the need for your brand to implement Instagram as a key part of your marketing strategy for 2015.

Simply Measured has created a very detailed report (that your can download here for free) on the Instagram strategies of the Interbrand Top 100.   That list of companies includes the likes of Apple, Disney, Google, and so on.  Here are the key takeaways from that report:

3 out of 4 of these top companies post at least one photo or video per week.

2. Focus on quality.
It’s important to have content that will catch your viewers eye.  Think about what stops you while scrolling quickly through your feed.  Aim to be unique, yet stay true to your brand.

3. Use @ Mentions.
Be sure to tag  other users when appropriate.  “On average, posts that include another user handle in the caption net 37% more engagement.”  Also, when you tag another account, that person or brand is more likely to repost your photo, therefore significantly increasing your photo’s exposure.

4. Use Hashtags.
86% of brand posts include at least one hashtag.  According to the report, “hashtags are a vital means of brand discovery… especially with the network’s latest addition of a ‘People’ tab to the ‘Explore’ page, highlighting interesting accounts to follow.
